Around 18 km from Hobart is the top of Mount Wellington, which in a clear day provides excellent views from the city and the bay. You drive on a paved, narrow and bumpy road, yhere are cyclists coming down, and buses and big vans with tourists, the message: be careful.
On the way down I went to the Botanical gardens, that does not charge an admission and if you want you make a donation. It is more than 200 years old, it was visited by Darwin in 1836 and has plants from every country in the world, adapted to the Tasmanian climate process that is difficult and expensive to achieve. It is worth visiting.
Itried to see the Military museum but it closes at 1 pm, and they ask you to make a reservation by phone.
Instead I went to the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) which is located 13 km from downtown. It was an interesting experience, I do not consider myself artistic oriented or knowledegeable, and the museum is large, in three levels, very modern and the colections are strange and play on your mind in many ways. It is a popular place with tourists from around the world, the entrance is $25 aus dollars. At the end you wonder if your mind is still functioning in a normal way. It does affect the viewer and listener.
Tomorrow I will go on the flight and River cruise, and the following day I will go to Port Arthur, therefore I extended an extra day at the Orana House B&B.
